Second Grade Success January 26, 2009

Spelling Words for this week:
This is a review week in spelling. We will be taking a test over all of the spelling words for theme 4.

You will not have to write sentences for these words because you have already done so. You will need to study for the test.

Phonics:

High-Frequency Words; Parts of a Dictionary Entry;

Decodable Text; Leveled Readers
Math- We are still working on geometry this week in math. We are discovering the characteristics of solid shapes such as pyramids, cones, cylinders, rectangular prisms, cubes, and spheres. Last week, we discussed two and three dimensional shapes. We will be comparing shapes this week and looking at symmetry.
Reading- Encourage students to read at least 20 minutes each night. Ask questions about the books that your child has read to increase comprehension. This week is a review week.
Writing- We are still working on friendly letters. The students have been writing letters to others in the class.
