August 18

Reminders


Remember to wear tennis shoes on gym days Monday/Wednesday/Thursday.

Student fees are $17.

Remember to return Grandparent’s Day forms

GRADE assessment begins this week. The best way to prepare is to get a good night’s sleep and have a good breakfast.


Math- We will be working on addition and subtracting. We will be focusing on combinations of 10, doubling, and story problems.
Reading- We will be reading the story Mrs. Brown Went to Town.
Writing- Our focus has been on writing complete 7 up sentences. Ask your child about our sentence expectations.
Social Studies- We will be discussing community leaders and their roles. We have been discussing patriotic symbols (Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, Flag, and Bald Eagle.)
Science- We will continue discussing energy. We will also be doing some experiments with light, heat, and sound and circuits.

NEWS about HOMEWORK
We will have weekly homework. Mondays and Wednesdays students will have a Reading Log to complete. Tuesdays and Thursdays students will have math homework. I will be sending home a homework log on Mondays and it will need to be returned on Fridays. Parents will need to sign or initial each night that the student has completed his/her homework.

The focus this week in reading:

Phonics: Short vowels a, i
Comprehension: Story Structure
Vocabulary: High Frequency Words: Homophones
Fluency: Reading Decodable Text, Leveled Readers

Math- We will be discussing graphs this week. Please encourage your children to look around them and find graphs in the real world.
Reading- We will be reading the story Dragon Gets By.
Writing- We have been working on “All About Me” Posters. The posters will be used to write a book about each person in our class. The books will be on display in our classroom library. Writing the books will help us develop our ability to write complete sentences with correct punctuation.
Social Studies- We will be discussing community leaders and their roles. We will be relating these roles to our classroom.
