Mrs. Elms went to the store to purchase some groceries. She spent $65 on food. She spent $20 on diapers for Kade. She spent $37 on other items. What was the total amount of money she spent? How did you get your answer?
I added three addends together. I had to use paper and pencil. The ones equaled 12. I had to regroup which left me with 2 in the ones place and a ten in tens. Then I added the tens together. 6 plus 2 plus 3 plus the 1 I regrouped equals 12. The sum is $122.
This is my third year at Chandler's. Before teaching at Chandler's, I taught preschool for five years at Olmstead. This is an exciting year for me because I started the National Board Teacher Certification process this summer.
